STATEMENT OF MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

STATEMENT OF TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I teach because:
I have a passion for guiding my students through the learning process. As a teacher my task, is to create an atmosphere that encourages learning by using up-to-date methods and tools in order for them to better grasp and practise what they’ve been taught. And by doing so I hope to contribute to a better educated society.

For you, what is the goal of teaching?
In general my goal in Teaching is to Transfer; Skills, Knowledge, Idea’s, Concepts, methods, to accomplish better learning. As an ICT Teacher my goal is to contribute ICT Tools and concepts to the students in order to enhance the education in all sectors.

What do you believe in when you teach?
When I teach I’d like my students to feel free and open minded. I believe that students should be able to say what they think and must not be afraid to come-up with new concepts. I like to encourage ‘Out of the Box’ thinking. By doing that I can have a better insight on what the students are thinking so I can anticipate and fill-in the gab between where they are and where they need to be according to the subject. I also believe stimulating conversations about concepts being presented and organizing material and equipments in a way that appeals to the learning experience which makes things much easier to understand. I also believe in autonomous learning where the teacher has more of a driving task, rather then being the center of the transmission. And by providing the proper ICT tools to students available these days, we as teachers can focus on the big picture and progress of the students while they use specialized tools to enhance their skills.
Finally, I believe that respect for my students is one of the most important things I can show. This is to inspire them to respect each other.

What kind of person do you want to be when you teach?
I’d like to be the students friend. Although I have the lead in the klas I’d like students to understand that I’m there for them to guide and facilitate them towards the goal to better learning. Through equality and equal respect I would like to create an atmosphere of understanding and collaboration.

Why did you become (or wish to become) a teacher?
First of all, as I said before I became a teacher because I like teaching. By the time I started to teach ICT, there were not a lot of ICT teachers and just because I got acquainted with ICT at a very early age at a time when people were still ‘afraid’ of the device called PC, I saw the opportunity to combine my passion with my hobby and decided to provide lessons in ICT in order to address the need.
At that time there was no ICT in Education program so I participated in several ICT courses and the Teachers Training Collage (IOL) separately just to be able to teach. And actually I already have my main job that pays pretty well but still I feel the need to teach. So for me it's absolutely not about the money. At the moment I’m not fully qualified but by doing this course I hope to get that recognition in 3 years. As a Bachelor in ICT Education I could be more of an Example to my students.

Project - Repit App

RepIt Bergen Raoul, Cramer Miguel, Maclean Julian & Mohan Perwinkoemar Cohort - 1 Project Mentor(s) Professor Padhu Seshaiyer                                         ABSTRACT Coming to the end of our 3 year education program we decided as a group to write a report on a project in which we wanted to create an app that is practical to use for teachers to help their students repeat the day lessons after school hours. Using this outline we decided that it must not be too complex, every ICT-in-Education teacher must be able to add the specific files or data. The base for the app was the Hello Purr app. This was then reconstructed into our RepIt app. The app gives a platform where files can be linked which have been uploaded earlier to a blog site.
